Click. Tap. Beep. Honk. Look. Ring. We live in a culture of yes. Yes, I’ll go see this movie, yes, I’ll order that on QVC, yes, I’ll marry you, yes, let’s have kids, yes, I’ll take that job. We’re perpetually “getting to yes.” But what about no?
We say no to the bad things, right? Drugs, junk food, sinful stuff. But yet, we hate saying no. It just doesn’t feel as good, connected, or thrilling as yes. But in fact no is where power, happiness, and prosperity reside. Take it from Warren Buffett: “The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.”
No is actually the devil, Saturn to be exact. Saturn in astrology is the devil. Saturn refuses our wishes and desires. Saturn rules Capricorn, the sign of ambition and structure. How ironic is it that the sign of ambition and structure is ruled by the devil, specifically by his frustrating limitations. Saturn says to us, “Ok, if you say yes to that, fine, but there is a cost.” It is conventionally thought that the devil tempts us, but isn’t it true that we’re the ones who make deals with the devil? If we refuse the devil he vanishes. The problem is saying yes feels so good. So what are we to do?
Take a different look at the word no or Saturn or the devil. Often times our limitations are what cause us to grow and expand beyond our desires and that Saturn impels us to dispense with. It may not be the sexiest choice, but upon closer reflection no is probably what you really want at the end of the day. Otherwise, you’re just making a deal with the devil.
